CDH Investment Bank (CDHIB) in partnership with Lilongwe University of Agriculture and Natural Resources (LUANAR) conducted the annual tree-planting exercise in Bunda on Friday 1st March 2024.
Speaking during the tree-planting ceremony in Lilongwe at Kadedwa Primary School in Pundu village in Lilongwe on Friday, the Bank’s Chief Treasury Officer, Mr Zondwayo Mafuleka said, “The tree-planting initiative reinforced CDH Investment Bank’s commitment to support environmental restoration.
“CDH Investment Bank, is proud to contribute to the 2023/2024 national tree planting season through our partnership with LUANAR. We trust that our efforts will contribute to a sustainable green environment that will help manage climate challenges such as soil erosion, combatting carbon emissions”, said Mafuleka.
CDH Investment Bank donated K5,700,000.00 to the Forestry Department of LUANAR. “We are proud to partner LUANAR on this initiative that creates awareness on the need to manage the environment in the community and instill a passion for protection of our environment,” said Mafuleka. We applaud LUANAR for the tree-planting initiative.
In his remarks, the Vice Chancellor of LUANAR, Professor Emmanuel Kaunda commended CDH Investment Bank for the partnership saying the university’s tree planting activities are instrumental in restoring the environment. He indicated that LUANAR takes reforestation and vegetative regeneration seriously and will continue to promote climate-smart and sustainable agriculture systems.
Senior Chief Pundu representing traditional authority for the area, T/A Chiseka thanked CDHIB for the seedlings and applauded the LUANAR Bunda team for the tree-planting initiative. The activity was graced by various representatives from CDHIB, senior LUANAR officials and other neighbouring schools and volunteers from the community.
The annual LUANAR tree-planting initiatives executed by the two organizations, following the MoU they signed in 2023 to support tree-planting for three years 2023 – 2025.
